Stage 1: 350-375 hp, ~$2,300-$2,900
Hondata FlashPro ($695-$790) plus the ECU jailbreak (~$250): the preloaded base map alone adds 45 hp and 50 lb-ft. Add a downpipe ($500-$950, worth 20-30 whp tuned) and a PRL intercooler ($879, rated for 600+ hp) to fight the K20's notorious heat soak. Expect 50-60 whp over stock, for roughly $35-$40 per wheel horsepower.
Stage 2: 375-415 hp, ~$5,000-$6,500 total
The Hondata fuel system upgrade ($2,495-$2,995): high-flow pumps, lines, and 1530cc injectors delivering 24% more fuel flow, with ethanol-ready calibrations included. Hondata's own testing shows 375 hp / 424 lb-ft on 91 octane (with intercooler and high-flow cat), rising to 415 hp / 448 lb-ft on an ethanol blend. This is the tier where the Type R starts embarrassing cars that cost twice as much.
Stage 3: 450-500+ hp, ~$8,000-$12,000 total
A Full-Race turbo upgrade on top of the fuel system, running ~40% ethanol: Hondata documented 477 hp / 438 lb-ft in this configuration. Beyond this you are into built-motor territory, and the front-wheel-drive chassis starts asking serious questions about traction. One planning note: the fuel-system unlock codes are tied to a single FlashPro, so finalize your parts list before you buy.
Before you do it
Two warnings from people who do this daily. First, some aftermarket intakes change the MAF housing size and require a tune immediately; do not install one on a stock calibration. Second, retune after every major change rather than stacking parts and hoping: install, datalog, refine. The K20C1 is a stout engine, but it rewards methodical builds and punishes guesswork. And as always, tuning invites warranty scrutiny.
